Chandigarh, October 5
The Chandigarh Administration has identified nine sites in the city where cracker stalls will be set up. Crackers will not be sold in the markets.
Sources said in view of the direction of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the Administration has decided to issue the same number of licence for the sale of crackers as last year. The Administration will allow only 96 persons at the designated places to sell crackers.
The allotment of the sites will be decided through a draw of lots that will be held on October 18 at 3 pm.
All applicants for temporary licence will have to apply again. The applications will be invited from October 7 to October 15 and application forms will be available at the sale counters of Red Cross Vendors in Kachehri Compound Estate Office Building, Sector 17, Chandigarh.
Apni Mandi ground in Sector 43, New Ramlila Ground in Sector 46, an open space in Sector 33-C, a space in Sector 37-C near a temple, Dasehra Ground in Sector 24, Apni Mandi ground in Sector 29, Ramdarwar old car bazaar open ground, open ground in Mani Majra and Masjid Ground in Sector 20 are the selected sites. No objections certificates have been sought from the departments concerned before finalising the sites.
Devinder Gupta, president of the Crackers Dealers’ Association, said the Administration should prepone the date of draw by at least one week.
He said it would take three to four days in completing the formalities before they could start selling crackers. “The sites should also be identified in such a way that they are accessible to all sectors. Water and other facilities should be provided at the sites,” he said.
