Punjabi University on Monday revoked the recent suspension orders passed against Dr Dalbir Singh, university sports in-charge and football coach, over allegations of having instigating violence on the campus.
Dejected over the matter, the complainant Finance Officer Prof Radhe Sharan Arora on Monday submitted his resignation to Vice-Chancellor BS Ghuman. Both officials confirmed the developments to The Tribune while university officials were unavailable for the comment.
Dr Dalbir Singh said, “The university has revoked the suspension orders passed against me in September. I have received the orders already. I was not wrong and the university has taken that into account.”
However, Finance Officer Prof Radhe Sharan Arora said, “I have submitted my resignation to the VC. This is the fourth time that I have had to deal with misbehaviour during my tenure.”
He said, “I had met the VC last week to discuss the matter. I demanded an FIR against the guilty, but the university failed to pay heed, so I resigned.”
However, the university officials were unavailable for comment.
The incident
On September 26, some students of the sports department in the university had entered the office of Prof Radhe Sharan Arora and created ruckus by breaking the office furniture.
The students were allegedly led by football coach Dr Dalbir Singh. They protested over non-clearance of sports bills, diet charges, including camps expenditure and others. The students also lifted chairs from the official’s office and broke them, following which the Finance Officer stopped holding office.
