It was a pending demand of students to have reading rooms in hostels, particularly women students. There has been shortage of space in reading rooms of libraries due to increase in strength of students over time.

The newly set-up reading rooms have been provided with air conditioners. The Vice-Chancellor visited boys’ hostel number 4, 5, 6 and 7 and girls’ hostel number 3, 4, 6, 8 and 9 to inspect the facilities being provided there.

“The Vice-Chancellor told us that wherever we have vacant space in hostels, reading rooms should be set up. The reading room at Guru Teg Bahadur Hall near hostel number 6 will be set up soon. We have to make arrangements for light and security there,” said Dean Students Welfare (DSW) Prof Emanual Nahar.

He added that for cleanliness in hostels, the Vice-Chancellor said part-time staff could be hired.

In girls’ hostel number 9, arrangements will be made for faculty to have food.

Toilets for transgenders

DSW Prof Emanual Nahar said either on Monday or Tuesday, toilets for transgenders would be opened. “We are looking for rooms for them,” he added.
