Panchkula, September 19

A protest against the Panchkula police for a delay in nabbing the murder accused landed the victim’s kin in trouble as the police booked them for blocking the Zirakpur-Shimla highway.

The Sector 5 police have registered a case against the family of Vikas Gautam, a Class XI student of Government Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 7, who was murdered outside the school, as well as residents of Rally village in Sector 12 for blocking the Zirakpur-Shimla highway on Tuesday.

The case has been registered against them under Sections 148, 149, 186, 283 and 341 of the IPC and 8A of the National Highways Act.

The family of the victim, Vikas, and hundreds of residents of the village had blocked the highway by placing the body on it, causing inconvenience to commuters for nearly an hour. The protesters were demanding the arrest of the accused. The police had a tough time in convincing the protesters that the accused had been arrested and would be punished as per law after a proper investigation. The protesters later lifted the dharna after the police showed them the photographs of the two accused arrested by them.

Meanwhile, the two minor accused in the murder case of Vikas Gautam, a Class XI student, have been sent to judicial custody by the juvenile court.
