Stalking case suspect Vikas Barala has claimed innocence in a video a day after he was released on bail.

Barala, who has been accused of having stalked a 29-year-old woman, has claimed in an almost two-minute-long video that the charges against him were aimed at “sullying his politician father’s image”.

“Several things have been said about me in these past five months. The charges me are false and unfounded. In truth, I am the real victim in this case. Nobody has asked me my side of the story,” Barala, whose father was a Subhash Barala is chief of the BJP in Haryana, said in the video. “My father is the head of a party in the state, and several political parties are targeting my father through me. I cannot tell you what my family went in the last five months.”

“Political circumstances kept my father from meeting me and my lawyer. People would have accused him of trying to help me.”

“There are no charges of molestation against me, either in the FIR or in court.  These are rumours. I appeal to you to only look at facts in the case.”

Kundu has called Barala’s claims “lies”.

“We have kept our complete faith in judicial system. And I am hoping that such a baseless video which is clearly a blatant lie will not affect the actual proceedings of law,” she said in reaction to the video.

The development comes a day after Barala was granted bail. Barala has been accused of stalking Varnika Kundu, and trying to block her car on August 4. The case made national headlines, and once again fuelled debate on violence against women in the country.

The defense counsel for Barala recently claimed during cross-examination that Kundu’s call records showed she wasn’t in the city on August 4. Kundu meanwhile has pointed out technical errors in her call records.
