VVM exams: 125 to attend state camp

Chandigarh, January 7

An estimated 1.47 lakh students appeared for the Vidyarthi Vigyan Manthan (VVM)- 2018, a national-level science examination, conducted on November 25 and 28.

Organised by Chandigarh Vigyan Parishad, Department of Science and Technology, Government of India, National Council of Education Research and Training (NCERT), Ministry of Human Resource Development, and Vijnana Bharti, the top 20 students from over 120 states were the eligible participants in the state-level camp. From Chandigarh, a total of 3,700 students appeared from 138 schools, of which 125 were selected to attend the first state camp.

The result was declared on December 15.

Camp at PU Chemistry Dept

A state-level camp was held at the Chemistry Department of Panjab University on January 6. The students appeared in three types of examinations — application oriented scholastic aptitude test (AOSAT), experimental skilled test (AST) and analytical scientific film (ASF). Vijnana Bharti, a renowned scientist, and research scholars from different parts of the country evaluated the students. Dr KN Singh, chairperson, Chemistry Department, Dr KS Arya, former principal, DAV College and Dr Rajnish Arora, former VC, Punjab Technical University, interacted with the students and parents.

Eighteen successful students were awarded cash prize, certificate and memento. The first and second runner-ups will represent Chandigarh at the national-level camp on May 18, 19 in Hyderabad.
