Woman arrested for immigration fraud

Chandigarh, June 10

The police arrested a woman, proprietor of Dream Global Consultants, Sector 34, here, for duping people to the tune of Rs 34 lakh on the pretext of sending them abroad.

The suspect, identified as Rashmi Negi, a resident of Sector 51, here, was arrested by a team led by Inspector Baldev Kumar, Station House Officer (SHO) of the Sector 34 police station.

The police said a complaint was received by Ankur Saini, a resident of Kurukshetra district, against Rashmi Negi and others, alleging that the accused induced him and others. Negi took Rs 34 lakh to send people abroad on work and study visa.

The police said the victims gave money and original documents to the accused. The accused had promised visas for Canada, Australia, Singapore and Hong Kong.

The police said the accused neither provided the visa to victims nor returned their money.

“With due course of investigation, we may find more victims and there are chances for escalation of money involved in the case. Further relevant sections of forgery of documents will be added as per the evidences received,” said a police official.

The police said Rashmi’s accomplices would also be booked.


Habitual criminal

According to the police, Rashmi Negi is a habitual criminal. The police have more than 15 complaints received against her and her company.
