Patiala, February 5
The Patiala police today solved the murder case of a 65-year-old woman whose body was recently found in a sack near Mata Naina Devi temple in Himachal Pradesh.
The police have arrested Surjeet Kaur in the case who admitted to have committed the murder. She has been sent to the judicial custody.
The police said Harbhajan Kaur, who lived alone in Chandigarh, had come to the city to meet her sister on January 26. She was last seen near Tripuri Chowk. Her son Vikramjeet Singh later returned from Canada on February 3 and registered a case of kidnapping and abduction with the police under Section 365 of the IPC.
Tripuri SHO Rajesh Malhotra said Harbhajan Kaur was abducted by Surjeet Kaur to acquire her showroom property.
After an investigation spanning more than a week, the police found the body in Himachal Pradesh.
Surjeet Kaur, along with her accomplice Puneet Kumar, drugged the victim and killed her by slitting her throat. They then packed her body in a sack and dropped it in Himachal Pradesh to dodge the police.
The SHO said: “Puneet Kumar has a criminal background with nearly 7 cases registered against him for various criminal activities. He was released from judicial custody from Sangrur jail in February 2016”.
The police said Surjeet Kaur has been remanded in police custody for five days, while her accomplice Puneet Kumar is absconding. The police have registered a murder case under Section 302 of the IPC against the duo.
