A 40-year-old woman allegedly consumed phenol after throwing boiling water on her mother-in-law and father-in-law at their residence at Sector 67 here.
The woman, Ashima Rawat, allegedly threw boiling water on 71-year-old Bawant Rawat and 69-year-old Sushila Rawat on Sunday in a fit of rage, the police said.
Inspector Kulbir Singh Sandhu, Station House Officer of the Phase XI police station, said after the incident, she too consumed phenol. The trio was shifted to private hospitals. The elderly couple received burn injuries on their chest, abdomen and arms.
Sandhu said Ashima was having strained relations with her husband Rajesh Rawat, who lived separately while she lived with her parents-in-law along with her two children.
“According to a complaint from her husband, Rajesh Rawat, she was boiling water in a pot when she had some arguments with Sushila Rawat. She first threw water on her and then on Balwant, who came to the rescue his wife,” said the Inspector.
He said the police had lodged a DDR after recording the statements of the parties concerned. “The next course of action will be determined after receiving medical reports in this matter,” said the Inspector.
