Students associated with the Punjab Eco-Friendly Association (PEFO) along with officials of Punjabi University set up a worm composting pit in Working Women’s Hostel on the varsity campus.
Paramvir Bal of the PEFA, said the compost would be prepared from the wet waste collected from the girls’ hostel, which would then be used as manure in the garden. “Worm compost has five times more nitrogen, eight times more phosphorus, 11 times potassium and three times more magnesium than normal compost,” said Bal.
Paramjit Kaur Gill, Dean Girls, said, “We have already set up compost pits at Hostel Number 5, which are functioning very well.”
