The first-ever National Bal Classical Sangeet Mahotsava-2018 organised by the North Zone Cultural Centre (NZCC), Patiala, under the aegis of the Ministry of Culture, commenced to a majestic start with the spirited performances of six prodigious chhotey ustads at Tagore Theatre here on Thursday.

Welcoming the chief guest, PL Sahu, NZCC director Dr Sauhagya Vardhan disclosed that all participants in the three-day mahotsav had secured merited position of finalists in All-India classical sangeet talent contest — Classical Voices of India-2017 — organised by the Sangeet Milan, an NGO, in 49 cities across the country.

Vaghisha Pandey from Varanasi opened her recital in raga Yaman while most-decorated singer Atharv from Nasik presented raga Puria Kalyan, besides a crisp tarana.

Vishnu Saini from Dehradun doled out raga Kedar before Pritha Mukherjee from Mumbai spelt magic with a slow-paced Moh Man Lagan Lagi and a tarana in raga Yaman. Soubhagya Mohapatra from Delhi presented raga Madhuvanti and Jayantika De from Varanasi presented raga Megh malhar much to the delight of audience.
