Chandigarh, February 5
Residents will have to pay more for power as the Electricity Department has decided to levy fuel and power purchase cost adjustment (FPPCA) charges on consumers from next month. The charges will be applicable to all types of consumers — domestic, commercial and industrial.
The charges will be levied from 29 paise to a maximum of 126 paise per unit. Sources said with the decision, the consumers would have to pay 15 to 20 per cent extra, depending upon the load and consumption, in the bills to be issued from next month. The department will charge extra to recover the amount of electricity it bought during October to December 2018. The Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) has authorised the department to charge more for fuel and power procurement cost variations.
An official said the UT purchased power from various sources to meet the demand in the city. The JERC has authorised the department to compute fuel and power procurement cost variations on a quarterly basis.
