Chandigarh, February 3
The Chandigarh International Airport was inaugurated with much fanfare by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 11, 2015. Even after 17 months it lacks the e-immigration check facility.
Plagued with several other shortcomings, the airport operations are already under the judicial scanner. It was also after the intervention of the High Court that the international flights, though only two so far, had been launched from here.
Due to the lack of the e-immigration check facility, a chartered flight from USA with a six-member delegation on board had to be sent back to Delhi after almost four-hour wait on late Thursday evening. The flight had landed at the airport at around 6:45 pm and send back to Delhi at 10:35 pm.
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Chandigarh International Aiport Sunil Dutt said, “Since it’s a new airport, the facility of the e-immigration is not there which has to be provided by the government of India. It is the duty of the passenger to first check whether the airport has the facility of e-immigration or not.”
He said, “Separate counters are already there at the airport for the same. The moment, the government notifies the facility, it will be started.”
