CLS Literati 2015

The 3rd edition of CLS Literati 2015 beckons the book lovers with the keynote address by author M.J. Akbar. The festival shall see almost 60 noted authors who would be exploring diverse aspects of contemporary Indian literature in English, Hindi, Panjabi, and Urdu. With Sufism for this year’s theme, the festival shall host cultural programmes too. “The Literati has become the melting pot of literary and creative minds inciting interests amongst the younger generation to read and even try their hands on writing,” shares CLS co-founder Vivek Atray.

Lonely Planet brings a special session for travel enthusiasts on Wanderlust: The Stuff of Fantasy with Hugh & Colleen Ganzer and Amrita Chatterjee sharing their travel writings. Tavleen Singh would deliver the valedictory address on November 8 at the concluding session of Literati. Acclaimed Indian film director and screen writer Sudhir Mishra would explore the journey of Indian cinema with Gul Panag in the session on Lights, Camera, Action: Surprises and Serendipity. Bollywood’s famous lyricists, Kausar Munir and Munna Dhiman would explore the dimensions of lyrics in the session Phoolon ke Rang Se, Dil Ki Kalam se. The books on Sikhs: The Untold Agony of 1984 by Nilanjan Mukhopadhya and Kashmir: The Loss of Innocence by Kiran Kohli Narain, shall be other highlights of Literati.

While the second day will see the writings for children take centre stage, with the session No Child’s Play with writers of children literature Payal Dhar, Himanjali Sankar, Devika Rangachari and Jane DeSouza. A major highlight of Literati is Sohaila Kapur premiering her latest play, Sohbat. 6th evening will see some sufi magic by Gurnazar Chattha. The entry to the festival is free and Chandigarh Literary Society has planned several other activities on the side including slam poetry, in which youngsters would be showcasing interactive poetry, on-the-spot painting and writing competitions, sketches and calligraphy, live music by school and college students.

Chandigarh Literature Festival

Adab Foundation presents 4th Chandigarh Literature Festival(CLF 2015), to be kicked off with a welcome & theme introduction by Mitul Dikshit, chairperson, Adab Foundation. Shashi Tharoor tops the list of significant participating names and so does Gulzar. At the festival, 14 of India’s critics nominated books will be dissected, analysed & read out at the festival, apart from writing workshops for young writers. Names which also include Kiran Nagarkar, Nayantara Sahgal, critic Jai Arjun Singh, among others. There will be discussion on films too, with four film sessions (on Badlapur, NH 10, Killa, Masaan) featuring directors, screenwriters & critics.

Day 2, will see Fractals poet Sudeep Sen in conversation with critic Shashi Tharoor, among others. Day 3 will see The Dead Camel and Other Stories of Love author Parvati Sharma in conversation with critic Aditya Mani Jha. India Shastra author Shashi Tharoor in conversation with critic Mihir Sharma. When God Is A Traveller author Arundhathi Subramaniam in conversation with critic Nirupama Dutt will follow. 60 Indian Poets author Jeet Thayil in conversation with critic Jennifer Robertson. Barf Aashna Parindey author Tarannum Riyaz in conversation with critic Noor Zaheer. This will be followed by Space Gulliver: Chronicles of an Alien poet Sampurna Chatterjee in conversation with critic Arundhathi Subramaniam.

Day 4 will see The Sly Company of People Who Care author Rahul Bhattacharya in conversation with critic Rukmini Bhaya Nair. Bhai Jaita’s Sri Gur Katha author Neeti Singh in conversation with critic Desraj Kali. 1971: A Global History of the Creation of Bangladesh author Srinath

Raghavan in conversation with critic Sukumar Muralidharan & Srajan Ka Rasayan author Shivmurti in conversation with critic Satyanand Nirupam. Author Sukriti Paul in conversation with critic Nirupama Datt. No Direction Rome author Kaushik Barua in conversation with critic Shougat Dasgupta. Churning the Earth authors Aseem Shrivastava and Ashish Kothari in conversation with critic Darryl D’Monte and Pluto poet Gulzar and translator Nirupama Dutt in conversation with critic Sukriti Paul. 7th evening will see a performance by a Delhi based band Guruz.
