City schools bag SEARCH impact award

Tribune Model School, Sector 29, and Learning Paths School, Mohali, have been recognised with the SEARCH impact award for making project SEARCH successful in the school and tricity.
In an additional honour, Vandana Saxena, principal of Tribune Model School, has been awarded with the Project SARCH— Award of Honour for demonstrable leadership quality, passion to promote sustainable consumption and active citizenship. She was also an invitee for a six-member panel discussion by school principals on the topic ‘Looking Back to Think Ahead’.
The awards were given away at a ceremony held yesterday at Stein Auditorium, India Habitat Centre, Lodhi Road, New Delhi. Vinima Bhardwaj, TERI Coordinator, Tribune Model School, received the award.
Project SEARCH (Sensitisation, Education And Awareness on Recycling for a clear Habitat) was initiated in partnership by TERI (The Energy And Resource Institute) and Tetrapak in schools pan India in 2009 to create awareness on waste management and for promoting habits for reducing, refusing, reusing and recycling for conserving the environment.
During the implementation of this project in seven phases in seven years across seven cities (Mumbai, Hyderabad, Pune, Goa, Delhi, Bangalore and Chandigarh), over 200 schools joined hands to work towards an environmentally conscious society.
The journey concluded at the awards ceremony yesterday in New Delhi where schools, teachers and students who contributed to the growth and evolution of Project SEARCH were awarded in eight categories— Best STEP Projects, Tetrapak Teacher Coordinator Award, Best Teacher Ambassador Campaign, Photography Contest, Best Vasundhara Enterprise, SEARCH Impact Award, Special Recognition to Principal and SEARCH School of the Year Award.
Sajneet Mangat, student of Class X, Yadvindra Public School, Mohali, was one of the winners for the best STEP Project while Ramneek Kaur of Learning Paths School was among awardees for Best Teacher Coordinator.—TNS
