10,421 cases settled in Karnal

In all, 10,421 cases out of 19,401 were settled at a National Lok Adalat organised on the district court premises here today. Around Rs 1.2 crore was awarded as claims.
Lalit Batra, District and Sessions Judge and Chairman, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), said the Lok Adalat proved a boon for people, whose cases were pending for decades, as their cases were settled amicably.
Thousands of traffic offenders, meanwhile, were let off after warning and a minimum fine.
The maximum rush was at a bench meant for public utility services where disputes related to mobile phone bills, water bills and electricity bills were settled.
Special benches set up for motor vehicle accident claims and cheque bounce cases witnessed heavy rush as well.
Sonepat
In all, 12,856 cases were disposed of in Lok Adalats organised today at Sonepat, Gohana, Gannaur and Kharkhoda. Nearly 22,000 cases were taken up in the Lok Adalats. Harshali Chaudhary, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) and District Legal Services Authority, Secretary, said the settlement amount reached up to Rs 3.55 crore.
Fatehabad
Out of 3,924 cases taken at a National Lok Adalat organised in the district courts here today, 1,836 cases were settled.
A sum of Rs 1.41 crore was awarded as compensation to litigants.
District and Sessions Judge AK Verma, Additional District and Sessions Judges Shalini Nagpal and Mahabir Singh, CJM Renu Rana, Additional CJM Amarjit Singh, and magistrates Sumitra Kadian, Jitender Berwal, Satish Kumar, Vandana Dhillon and Jitender Kumar presided over the Lok Adalats.
“Of the cases settled, 1,071 were at the pre-litigation stage,” said Sunil Jindal, CJM and DLSA Secretary.
He said the National Lok Adalat began from October 11 and several courts in Fatehabad settled 11,882 cases by December 11. “With 1,836 cases settled today, the total number of cases settled in two months is 13,718,” Jindal added.
Rohtak
Nearly 26,000 cases related to judicial, administrative, revenue and other courts were settled at the third National Lok Adalat here today. These included nearly 3,000 pending cases and nearly 23,000 cases which were at the pre-litigation stage.
District and Sessions Judge Sushil Kumar Gupta told the media: “The first National Lok Adalat was organised nearly two years ago. It proved to be a success. Hence, Lok Adalats were being organised regularly.”
The Judge pointed out the Lok Adalats settled cases through mutual consent and played a key role not only in delivering prompt justice to people, but also reducing the burden on courts considerably.
“The decision of the Lok Adalat cannot be challenged in a court of law,” he said, adding compensation amounting to Rs 2 crore was provided to victims of motor vehicle accidents. An insurance company paid Rs 64 lakh to a family of a person, who died in an accident.
