Dehradun, November 22

Uttarakhand BJP spokesperson Munna Singh Chauhan today alleged that 191 illegal appointments had been made in the Van Vikas Nigam under the watch of its Chairman Harish Dhami.

Chauhan, while addressing mediapersons here today, said most of these appointments were a farce. “All appointees are from Dharchula and were accommodated on posts that were newly created,” he added.

He said instead of asking the regular recruitment organisation to make appointments, a private firm was hired “and was paid huge sums of money,” he added.

Chauhan said the nigam had misused the Corporate Social Responsibility fund to benefit Dharchula residents. “The Chief Minister represents the Dharchula constituency. Earlier Dhami was the local MLA. Several crores of rupees have been spent on frivolous activities,” he alleged.

He said several crores of rupees had been spent on the purchase of bicycles under the garb of promoting ecotourism activities.

Chauhan said the Uttarakhand BJP had approached the Election Commission and complained against Assembly Speaker Govind Singh Kunjwal for misusing his discretionary funds. “We have also highlighted the issue of appointments made by the Speaker in the Vidhan Sabha secretariat. Of the 97 persons appointed by him, around 75 per cent of them belong to his Jageshwar constituency,” he added.
