2-day-old abandoned at Karnal orphanage

A two-day-old girl was left abandoned by unknown persons at a cradle baby centre situated at the entrance of MDD Bal Bhawan, late yesterday.

PR Nath, founder general secretary of Bal Bhawan, said he found a baby girl in the cradle around 9:25 pm yesterday. “She was wrapped in a blanket and appears to be in a good health. I have informed the child welfare officer about the incident and health check-up of the girl,” Nath said, adding that no identity was found along with the girl. Children of Bal Bhawan have named her Disha, he said.

The cradle baby centre (palna house) was started on November 14. It was an initiative of the state government to give shelter to abandoned children, said PR Nath, adding that babies were well taken care of till they were adopted.

The child welfare officer has submitted a letter to the police for her medical examination. Due to non-availability of the doctor, the medical examination was not conducted and would be done on Tuesday, said Kamaldeep Rana, SHO, Sadar.
