Karnal, October 4
In another case of loophole in security, two deaf and dumb women escaped from Nari Niketan yesterday. It is Haryana’s only government-run shelter home for women.
The two inmates — Urmila and Roshni, both in their twenties — stole the keys of the main gate and escaped.
Rajni Pasricha, Programme Officer (PO), Integrated Child Development Services (ICDS), launched an inquiry. Staff members were found negligent, she said.
Urmila was shifted to the shelter home on July 28, 2015, and Roshni, on January 26, 2014.
Urmila was found abandoned in a train; she was shifted here on an order of the Rewari DC. Roshni was an inmate of Apna Ghar, Rohtak. She was sent to Gurgaon and later to Karnal, Pasricha said.
“The two inmates were keeping a vigil on the movement of employees. They sensed an opportunity on Monday when an employee went to the bathroom after keeping the keys outside,” she said.
Sandhya, in charge, Nari Niketan, said they had filed a police complaint against the inmates. Both were booked.
Sources said the shelter home is overcrowded. It has more than 60 inmates against its sanctioned strength of 50.
