Two youths, including a Nepalese, yesterday fell into a deep crevice in the Nazang glacier in the Darma valley while returning after extracting Yarsa Gumba from there. Their bodies were later recovered.
DD Upadhayay, gram pradhan of Garba village in Dharchula subdivision, said the bodies of the youths were taken out of the crevice. They were cremated with the consent of their relatives. “Arjun Singh Sahi (23), a resident of Garba village in India, and Prem Singh (25), a resident of Jajarkot in Nepal, died after they slipped into a glacial crevice at Nazang last night. A heavy snow boulder fell on Arjun Singh and he fell into the deep gorge. Prem Singh tried to save him but he was also slipped. They could not be saved,” said Upadhayay.
According to sources, four deaths have occurred in the high Himalayan region this year. Thousands of villagers go to high mountain valleys to extract Yarsa Gumba and they are now returning from meadows as rains have started there.
