200 farmers get agricultural tool kits
Nurpur, February 5
A day-long workshop, held under the Integrated Watershed Management (IWM) programme, was organised at Baranda gram panchayat near here yesterday.
The workshop was presided over by Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC), Kangra, Sudesh Mokhta. As many as 200 farmers were given subsidised agricultural kits worth Rs 2.75 lakh at the workshop by the chief guest. Mokhta said Baranda gram panchayat had been selected under the IWM programme and Rs 1.27 crore would be spent on various development activities in this panchayat. Exhorting residents of the panchayat to take the benefit of government-sponsored schemes, the ADC briefed about a number of programmes launched by the state government for women empowerment and their self-reliance. He praised women Self-Help Groups for their performance in various fields.
Jameet Singh Mandol, Block Development Officer, Indora, who was also present, said farmers belonging to Integrated Rural Development Programme, SC and ST families had been given agriculture implements for which they were charged 5 per cent of the cost whereas others were charged only 10 to 20 per cent of the cost. — OC
