23 govt polytechnics to get NBA accreditation

The state government has decided to get all 23 existing government polytechnics functioning from their own campuses accredited in a phased manner under the Rs115- crore SwarnJayanti Scheme.
Education MinisterRam Bilas Sharma said accreditation by the National Board ofAccreditation (NBA) was necessary to ensure quality so that those emerging from the polytechnic system were effectively placed in the industry.
At present, thereare a total of 28 government polytechnics of which five are being run with guest classes.
None of thegovernment polytechnics was having NBA or National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) accreditation.
The scheme would be implemented from 2016-17 to 2019-20.
While a sum of Rs 5 crore would be spent in 2016-17, Rs 40 crore each would be spent in 2017-18 and 2018-19 and Rs 30 crorein 2019-20.
Currently, the Haryana State Board of Technical Education (HSBTE), Panchkula, has undertaken the process ofaccreditation in government and government-aided polytechnics.
The National Instituteof Technical Teachers Training and Research (NITTTR), Chandigarh, has been engaged asthe mentor to assist the polytechnics in the accreditation project.
