The Centre has approved a proposal of a new 250-bed medical facility at the Government Medical College, Haldwani, thus paving the way for increase in seats of MBBS from 100 to 150 in the hospital.
“We have got the approval from the Medical Council of India to open a new 250-bed hospital for which we are now getting the land cleared. The forest and environment department of the Central Government is yet to clear the land,” said Dr CMS Rawat, principal of Government Medical College, Haldwani.
The new facility will add 250 beds to the existing 650 beds in the medical college. “We want to have neurosurgical and plastic surgery departments in the hospital so that poor people of the region could avail of these facilities,” said Dr Rawat. — OC
