Jammu, December 14
Three women directors are making debut in the 10-day-long annual drama competition of the state, which opens tomorrow at Abhinav Theatre.
This is for the first time in the state theatricals that three women directors are competing in the drama competition, which will carry cash awards, besides merits awards in various categories.
Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art Culture and Languages secretary Aziz Hajini, welcoming the women directors in the arena, termed this as a healthy competition.
“This is a welcome step as three out of 10 directors in the competition are females. This gives a great edge to both the sexes to give their best in the competition and come out with flying colours. I wish all directors a great success in the show,” said Hajini.
Sapna Soni, one of the women directors in the competition, said this was her first directorial venture and that too in the competition.
“Other female directors who are participating have directed some shows earlier also, but this is my first venture and I am reposing great faith on my team to do the best,” said Sapna Soni, a stage and TV artiste. She is directing Mahesh Elkunchwar’s “Aarkt Kshan”.
Neha Lahotra , who has nearly 10 theatre productions to her credit, said though she had directed plays, but she was venturing into a competition for the first time.
“I am directing a period drama that includes clinical adaptation of the period costumes, sets and acting skills. Also the play has a very strong content which highlights dilemma of a writer faced with opposition and aggression,” said Neha Lahotra, who directs Surendra Varma’s “Aathvan Sarg”.
The other women in the fray is Meera Tapasvi, who will direct local playwright Rajnish Gupta’s “Kiraydaar”.
The annual drama competition will start tomorrow and culminate on December 28. — TNS
