Yamunanagar, April 24
Thirtyone gram panchayats of Chhachhrauli block in Yamunanagar district and Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh have passed resolutions demanding a bridge over the Yamuna river near Nawajpur village to connect Haryana and UP.
The gram panchayats under the banner of the Sanyukt Khadar Vikas Sangrash Samiti, Yamunanagar, sent copies of the resolutions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi demanding construction of a bridge in the area.
Ashok Kumar Kamboj, president of the samiti, said there were two bridges over the Yamuna in Yamunanagar district—one in Kalanaur village and the other on the Hathnikund barrage in Tajewala.
He said the movement of heavy vehicles was not allowed on the bridge situated in Hathnikund barrage. Therefore, there was a huge traffic on the Kalanaur bridge causing inconvenience to commuters daily.
He added that in the absence of a bridge in the area, people had to travel a long distance to go to UP from Haryana and to come to Haryana from UP.
“The Yamuna is situated between Haryana and UP. But people of both the states belonging to the said area have to go both sides for their works daily. Therefore, the government should construct a bridge near Yamunanagar district’s Nawajpur village,” said Ashok Kumar.
He said the government had constructed bridges in Karnal, Panipat and Sonipat districts on public demand, therefore the government should also fulfil the demand of Chhachhrauli residents.
Sushil Kumar of Begampur village said if a bridge was constructed near Nawajpur village, it would be beneficial for the people of Chhachhrauli block and Bilaspur subdivision.
