LUDHIANA: Additional Sessions Judge JPS Khurmi has convicted Bachitter Singh of Sarpanch Colony, Kuliewal, for causing death of his neighbour Kuldip Singh unintentionally. He has been awarded imprisonment for three years and a half and slapped a fine of Rs 5,000. Bachittar’s son-in-law Manjit Singh has been awarded two-year jail term along with a fine of Rs 2,000 under Section 325 of the IPC and his wife Harminder Kaur and daughter Mandip Kaur have been sentenced to six-month jail under Section 323 (causing simple injuries) of the IPC. A case against them was registered at the Jamalpur police station on February 16, 2014 on a statement of Jai Singh, father of the deceased. According to the prosecution, the accused stressed Kuldip should remove the excreta of his dog from in front of their house. When he refused, a quarrel started. Kuldip suffered an injury on the head. DLSA secretary Bhagat transferred to Faridkot as CJM
LUDHIANA: The High Court of Punjab and Haryana has transferred Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Rajesh Bhagat to Faridkot as CJM. He would be replaced by Dr Gurpreet Kaur, CJM, as new Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority. Civil Judge (Junior Division) Rajwinder Kaur has been transferred to Mukerian on promotion. JMIC Ajay Pal Singh (Budhlada), Isha Goel (Malout), Nazmeen Singh (Chandigarh) have also been transferred. OC
Lecture on orthodontics
While delivering an informative lecture on braces Dr PS Grover, a senior dental consultant, said, “Orthodontic treatment of fixing braces can be done in almost every individual. Results may vary according to the age of the patient.” He said, “There are two types of braces removable and fixed. If the defect is slight, removable ortho plates are used and if multiple problems exist fixed ortho is used.” “Teens are best suited for this treatment as bones are still developing and the growth is on,” he added.
Discussion on heart disease
While addressing senior managers and executives of Vardhman Special Steels Ltd on the topic “Stress management and lifestyle modifications for preventing heart disease”, Dr HS Bedi, said, “Lifestyle modifications like diet, exercise and stress management go a long way in the prevention of heart disease.” He said, “If today’s generation does not follow a healthy lifestyle then our children may be the first generation in the history of mankind, whose life expectancy may be less than ours”. While elaborating on the topic he added that, “The exact cause of heart disease is not known. There is, however, some known modifiable and non-modifiable factors responsible for the disease. The modifiable risk factors are high blood pressure, smoking, obesity, a sedentary lifestyle, stress and high cholesterol.” He said, “Indian especially Punjabi genes make us prone to obesity, diabetes and heart disease.” Highlighting the importance of relaxation and unwinding after work, Dr Bedi added that, “Set aside some time every day for doing things you enjoy. A relaxing and enjoyable hobby can work wonders to beat stress. Enjoy seven to eight hours of sound sleep every day. Don’t be a work alcoholic. Keep one day in a week for complete relaxation.” He said, “Laughter is nature’s greatest tonic and the best medicine indeed.”
