51 adopted daughters of UPES felicitated

The University of Petroleum and Energy Studies (UPES), Dehradun, today organised a gala event to celebrate the success and achievements of its 51 adopted daughters. The teachers and parents of these girls were also present on the occasion. The university has adopted 51 girls and provides total educational support to them and promotes their overall development. These underprivileged girls belong to Bidholi, Bishenpur, Upper Kandoli, Pondha, Dunga, Masras Pattti, Bakarna and Khara Khet villages located within 12 km radius of the area of operations of the UPES.
It is worth noting that 10 UPES daughters secured the first position, five the second position while seven secured the third position in their classes. All these girls are from class 1 to VIII. Four UPES daughters, who took the class Xth board examination this year, successfully passed with one of them securing the first division. Similarly, four UPES daughters, who appeared for the class XII board examination, passed it with two securing the second division. Four are pursuing their graduation degrees.
The university not only focuses on their education but also emphasises on their overall personality development to make them more confident and prepare them for challenges. The personality development program (PDP) helps them in developing communication skills and extra-curricular activities such as dance, aerobics, yoga, art and craft, painting, knitting, sports activities, etc. In the villages, mobility is one of the key challenges for girls, so to lessen their travelling time the adopted daughters have been gifted bicycles.
Sanjay Kaul, founder president of the UPES, interacted with them. He congratulated them for their academic achievements and encouraged them to pursue their dreams. Utpal Ghosh, CEO and president of the UPES, Dr SJ Chopra, Chancellor; Dr Shri Hari, Vice-Chancellor; Sanjiv Zutshi, Senior Director Operations; Brig SS Dhillon (retd), Director Administration; Dr Mandira Agarwal, Senior Associate Professor and Deputy Director, CSR, and other distinguished UPES family members were present.
