Dehradun, March 9
A voter turnout of 58.60 per cent was recorded in the elections to the Karanprayag Assembly constituency in Chamoli district that passed off peacefully today.
According to the office of Chief Electoral Officer, no reports of malfunctioning of electronic voting machines (EVMs) or other incidents that could hamper voting have been received.
The elections in Karanprayag were postponed following the death of BSP candidate Kuldeep Kanwasi in a road accident. Uttarakhand went to polls on February 15 for 69 seats. Now, voting has completed for all 70 seats.
The BJP has fielded Surinder Singh Negi while the Congress gave ticket to sitting MLA Ansuya Prasad Makhuri. The BSP gave ticket to Jyoti Kanwasi, widow of Kuldeep Kanwasi.
The constituency has 91, 849 voters, including 45,581 women. The counting of votes for all 70 seats will take place on March 11.
