70-year-old man killed in accident near Jagraon

Jagraon, June 25

An elderly man died after a speeding SUV hit his cycle near Abohar Branch of Sirhind Feeder Canal, 5 km from here, on the Jagraon-Raikot Road last evening. The deceased has been identified as Shingara Singh (70), a resident of Kothe Premsar village near Jagraon.

The accident took place when the victim was returning to his village after work.

Sources said as soon as he reached near the canal a black Mahindra Scorpio coming from Jagraon side hit him from behind. The impact of the collision was such that he died on the spot.

The SUV driver fled from the scene. Some passersby informed the police following which the police team launched an investigation.

The police took the body under its custody and sent it for post-mortem at the Civil Hospital, Jagraon.

SHO Jagraon Sadar Rajesh Kumar said the police have registered a case of negligence driving against unidentified driver and further investigation was on. The efforts to track the driver were underway, the Station House Officer said.
