When Mahabir Phogat, father of Phogat sisters (Geeta and Babita), met actor Aamir Khan during the shooting of ‘Dangal’ in Ludhiana on Monday, Aamir promised him that he would visit his house in Balali village of Bhiwani in November before the release of the film.

In the biopic, Aamir Khan essays the role of Mahabir Phogat, who fought societal pressure and helped his daughters become world wrestling champions.

“I along with my wife Daya Kaur had visited the set of ‘Dangal’ in a Ludhiana village yesterday. We were amazed to witness that Aamir Khan has been doing justice to the character while raising girls into the power sport, where they were looked down upon for being the fair sex,” said Mahabir Phogat.

A state-level wrestler, Mahabir Phogat, said Aamir had picked up wrestling nuances quite well in a short span of time. He said the film set reminded him of their struggling days, when people used to taunt him for training girls in wrestling.

Mahabir said Aamir was keen to visit his native village since he had started working on the film but could not make it due to the time constraint.

“This time, when I met him, he said he would definitely visit Bhiwani in November and wrestle with me in my ‘akhara’ before the release of ‘’Dangal’’ in December,” he said.

He said Aamir had also extended his best wishes to Vinesh and Babita, representing the country in the Rio Olympics in wrestling.

Mahabir Phogat first shot to limelight after his elder daughter Geeta won the gold medal in the 2010 Delhi Commonwealth Games. Later, her sister Babita and cousin Vinesh followed in her footsteps.
