Jammu, July 17

Activists of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Jammu and Kashmir, along with representatives of various Sikh organisations today staged protest, demanding naming of Kunjwani Chowk as Amar Shaheed Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk and installation of his statue.

They said many protests were organised in the recent past besides approaching the government but in vain. “Recently, the Delhi Government led by its Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has named the fly over as Banda Singh Bahadur Setu to pay homage to the great Sikh warrior on his 300th death anniversary. The AAP, Jammu and Kashmir, demands from the government to name the chowk as Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Chowk,” a statement said.

The protesters said earlier it was decided to hold hunger strike but due to the ongoing Amarnath yatra and Kashmir unrest, a peaceful demonstration was held today.
