Jasmeet Kaur (12) of Amargarh village on the Abohar-Sadulshehar road who had been allegedly kidnapped by Dalip Meghwal, alias Sonu, of Bhagsar village (Abohar) on February 16 has been rescued by the police in Maharashtra. The accused, however, managed to flee.
Accused Sonu had been impersonating as a baptized Sikh and had kidnapped two other minor children from Tibbi in 2015, both were rescued at Nanded. They were also used by the accused to collect money by begging.
Interrogation indicated that Sonu threatened Jasmeet and took her on a motorcycle to Ludhiana. He forced her to beg to arrange travel expenses. He abandoned the bike there and took the girl to Delhi. After staying in a gurdwara for a night, he forced her to board a train to Nanded.
Sonu escaped when the train halted.
