A new area with around two dozen canvas prints was added to Sobha Singh Art Gallery at Andretta, 11km from here, today.
Additional room, which used to be verandah of eminent artist late Sobha Singh’s ‘Grow More Good’ cottage has been merged with the art gallery. Around two dozen canvas prints covered with toughened glass have been displayed in this area.
This will enable visitors to see additional art works by the late artist and a panoramic view of an Italian deer sculpture amidst water tank situated in a circular garden.
The new area was inaugurated by SPS Bains, a leading industrialist from Ludhiana who is also secretary general of Sobha Singh Memorial Art Society (SSMAS). Bibi Gurcharan Kaur, daughter of Sobha Singh; Dr Hirday Paul Singh, secretary general, SSMAS; Kamaljit Kaur, a known folk art and craft artist and art lovers were present during the inaugural ceremony.
With this, the whole complex which was part of Art Gallery and Residential Ares during the lifetime of Sobha Singh, who passed away in 1986, has been thrown open to art lovers and visitors to Sobha Singh Art Gallery and Museum.
The Sobha Singh Studio was opened to the public last year and a museum was inaugurated in the year 2011.
There is plan to declare the whole complex comprising art gallery, museum, studio and garden as Sobha Singh Memorial.
