UT Adviser Vijay Kumar Dev today held a meeting of officials of the Chandigarh Administration, Municipal Corporation and UT Police Department to deliberate up how to make Chandigarh a safe city— one of the pan city solution under the Smart City Mission – at the UT Secretariat, Sector 9.
Giving details of the meeting, the Nodal Officer of the smart city project, Danish Ashraf, said in today’s meeting they discussed each and every aspect of a safe city. Similarly in the coming days, they will discuss e-governance as a pan city solution, he said.
Recently, in an online poll for a pan-city solution for the city, a total of 68 per cent people wanted online delivery of citizen services while 15 per cent selected integrated public transport and smart traffic management solutions. Enhancing safety and security of citizens through technology was a priority of only 16 per cent participants.
Chandigarh has been shortlisted by the Union Ministry of Urban Development as one of the 100 cities to participate in the Smart City Challenge.
The 100 smart cities’ mission intends to promote adoption of smart solutions for efficient use of available assets, resources and infrastructure. The Centre has earmarked Rs 48,000 crore for the development of 100 smart cities. In the first phase, the Centre will select 20 cities and in the next two years, 40 cities each will be selected for receiving the Central funding of Rs 500 crore spread over the next five years. Each smart city will get a Central assistance of Rs 100 crore per year for five years.
