After lineman, now RTM electrocuted

Two days after a lineman died of electrocution in Mohali, Viney Kumar (52), an RTM with the UT Electricity Department, lost his life when he fell from a 15-feet tall pole after getting electrocuted in Sector 41 yesterday.

The incident happened at around 6:30 am when Viney climbed up the electricity pole to fix a fault. He was not wearing any safety gears.

“In many cases, lives are lost due to apathetic attitude of the department,” said one of deceased’s colleague.

Earlier, V Hemraj lost his life, whereas, his colleague Manohar Lal sustained injuries when they were fixing a fault at Phase V at the time of the incident. The deceased was perched on an electricity pole when he came in contact with an electric wire. Manohar Lal tried to save him but failed in his attempt. However, in this case also no responsibility was fixed or any concrete action taken to avoid such incidents in future.
