The police have tightened noose around inter-state drug peddlers of the region. They are on run and addicts have started seeking medical help for drug de-addiction.

Addicts who can’t fight back the habit have reportedly shifted temporarily to neighbouring states where narcotics and psychotropic drugs are more easily available.

Increasing surveillance on vehicles coming from Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Haryana and Maharashtra, besides check on addicts was cited as most fruitful strategy in curbing inflow of banned products.

Though the police are tightlipped about progress made in the direction of tracking some notorious inter-state gangs of drug peddlers, major breakthrough is expected in near future.

Investigations revealed that special teams of cops supervised led by IPS Kanwardeep Kaur; SHO Dehlon Amandeep Singh Brar; SHO Sadar Harwinder Pal Singh; SHO Raikot Vikramjit Singh; SHO Sudhar Rajesh Sharma and SHO Jodhan Jaspal Singh had enhanced vigil around establishments including roadside dhabas, shops near mills and factories and medical stores. Vehicles coming from Rajasthan, Haryana, Madhya Pardesh and Maharashtra including public transport were searched more intensively for ruling out inflow of banned products including poppy husk, opium and narcotic powder.

Link road, which once used to be exploited for trafficking of drugs and narcotics were almost sealed during nights.

Sources revealed that members of notorious gangs of drug peddlers including women couriers had gone underground for the fear of action by the police. Feeling failure in contacting their regular suppliers, chronic addicts have started searching for either the medical treatment for drug de-addiction or alternative products to quench their thirst.

Senior Superintendent of Police Ludhiana (rural) Ravcharan Singh Brar said the police had succeeded in identifying major inter-state pipeline of drugs which has been almost strangulated. Arguing that divulging details at this juncture might benefit some major connecting links of the illicit trade, Brar acknowledged that major breakthrough was expected.

“Though we have succeeded in identifying almost all links of the inter-state drugs trade which has been ruining youth, we can not disclose the details right now as it might hamper further progress in the case,” said Brar.
