A state-level convention of All-India Kisan Federation was held at Punjabi Bhawan here today in which hundreds of representatives from various districts of Punjab took part.
The convention was presided over by district president of the federation Ikbal Singh Bhangu.
The leaders representing various kisan organisations discussed the long-pending demands of farmers. Farmers said agricultural budget should also be presented separately by the Centre like Railway and Union Budget, so that farmers could be benefitted. The recommendations of Swaminathan Committee should be implemented for the welfare of farmers all over. Moreover, the respective governments were forcefully acquiring the land of farmers, which was uncalled for. Farmers were debt ridden, hence their interests should be waived-off. Those over the age of 60 years should be granted pension, the representatives said.
The kisan leaders said farmers today were suffering and suicides was the outcome. Their grievances should be redressed by the government as farmers fed the entire nation. Speakers including Zora Singh, Lakhwinder Singh, Sukhdev Singh, Dr Gurmer Singh among others asked their fellow beings in other states including Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Haryana to join hands and stand united for the early implementation of the demands.
They said a kisan march would be held in Punjab from March 17-24 in this direction.
