Padma Shri recipient, Grammy Award winner and Mohan veena maestro Pandit Vishwa Mohan Bhatt enthralled the audience during a classical music concert, organised by the Mohan Cultural Society of the Post Graduate Government College for Girls (PGGCG) in collaboration with Spic Macay and the Chandigarh Sangeet Natak Akademi ( CSNA), at the college auditorium today. Kamal Arora, chairman, CSNA, was the chief guest on the occasion.
Bhatt commenced his performance with Raga Nat Bhairav, creating a serene mood. Be it the slow-paced composition vilamabat gat or the fast-paced drut composition, he captivated the audience with his performance.
He weaved a magical spell with the composition, “By the River Side”, which won him the Grammy Award in 1994. The spirit of patriotism and spirituality pervaded as he presented compositions such as “Raghupati Raghav Raja Ram”, “Vaishnav Jana To”, Vande Mataram, I love India, a fusion piece Jog Jazz and the National Anthem. Bhatt was all praise for the college students as they sand with him. He expressed the desire to use their voice in his next recording.
He was accompanied on tabla by Himanshu Mahant.
