Though the three candidates, who filed their nominations today for the Rajya Sabha seat, harbour political ambitions, among them only Congress-PDF candidate Pradeep Tamta prefers to call himself a full-time politician.

In his affidavit submitted today to the Election Commission, Tamta, who hails from Lomb village in Bageshwar, has described his occupation a full-time politician.

On the other hand, Geeta Thakur, though occupying the post of a secretary in the women’s wing of the Uttarakhand BJP, has been fielded as an independent candidate. Thakur shies away from calling herself a politician. She prefers to call herself a social activist as indicated in the occupation column.

Anil Goyal, a BJP state working committee member, prefers to call himself a businessman and politician.

As far as assets go, Anil Goyal is the richest among the three, possessing land in several places in Dehradun and New Delhi.

The three candidates are postgraduates. Among them Pradeep Tamta appears to be highly educated, having done MA, LLB and BEd.

The candidates have no criminal background. As far as vehicles are concerned, Tamta owns an Innova, while Thakur has Mahindra SUV and Swift car. Anil Goyal too owns several cars.

In the asset details submitted by Pradeep Tamta in 2014-2015, he owns 35 nalli agriculture land in Lob village of Bageshwar, whose market value is calculated around Rs 3,50,625, whereas the market value of his house is roughly around Rs 2,00,000. The total worth of these properties is estimated at Rs 5,50,625. Tamta’s liquid assets comprising LIC policies, savings in banks and post offices amounting to Rs 13,67,651. While his wife is slightly richer than him and owns liquid assets to the tune of Rs 22,36,578.

On the other hand, independent candidate Geeta Thakur has disclosed her net income for the financial year is Rs 4,35,850 (2015-2016).

Anil Goyal has disclosed his income roughly around Rs 7 crore, while his wife’s income is around Rs 1.6 crore and that of his dependent Rs 1 lakh. Goyal is in possession of jewellery worth Rs 16 lakh and his wife possesses jewellery valued at Rs 75 lakh.
