Srinagar, October 25
The Army today paid tributes to the late Brigadier Rajinder Singh of the erstwhile J&K State Forces, popularly known as the ‘saviour of Kashmir’.
Lt Gen Satish Dua, General Officer Commanding of the Srinagar-based 15 Corps, unveiled a bust of the martyred hero at a ceremony held here today as a mark of honour, respect and pride for his gallantry and supreme sacrifice during the 1947 Pakistan-abetted tribal invasion of J&K. Late Brigadier Rajinder Singh was posthumously awarded the first post-independence Maha Vir Chakra.
The bust was unveiled at the main entrance gate of the Badami Bagh Cantonment, which is already named as ‘Brigadier Rajinder Singh Dwar’ in his memory.
The occasion was marked by recalling the heroic rear guard actions of the brave soldier and his handful of equally determined comrades to delay the advancing Pakistan marauders between Garhi and Buniyar, where he had attained martyrdom.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries from political, bureaucratic and academic circles, besides the security forces.
Tributes were offered to all martyrs, including the civilians, who had laid down their lives while saving the state from the Pakistan invaders.
The Chinar Corps Commander (GOC 15 Corps) saluted the patriotism of the martyred hero and said such exemplary lives were a source of inspiration for all posterity.
