Art festival to get to a colourful start

A galaxy of artists will assemble here tomorrow for the art festival being organised to commemorate 200 years of Shimla.

Artist KK Gandhi from Jammu will fill the big canvas with colours under the sky on the Ridge while reputed artists from six states, Prof SN Lehri, Principal of College of Fine Arts, Delhi, Ram Viranjan, Chairman, Department of Fine Arts, Kurukshetra University, Chandrakant Prajapati from Surat, Gujarat, Baldev Gambhir from Amritsar and Dr Anand Sharma from Chandigarh College of Fine Arts will paint on the spot in the multipurpose hall at the Gaiety Theatre.

Deputy Commissioner, Shimla, Dinesh Malhotra said Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh would inaugurate the festival and students and budding artists from Department of Visual Arts, Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) would brush Shimla in colours from different angles.

The biggest attraction of the art festival will be the live 3D painting on the Mall and Ridge and also live portrait-making and calligraphy art performances by 10 artists, he said.
