Prospective Independent candidate Kulwant Singh, a coloniser-turned-politician, is the richest among the nominees who have filed their papers for the Mohali Municipal Corporation poll. He has shown his assets at Rs 22.63 crore in the affidavit.
Kulwant Singh had contested the Lok Sabha elections from the Fatehgarh Sahib constituency on the SAD ticket last year. His two “crorepati” sons, Manpreet Singh and Sarabjit Singh, have assets worth Rs 1.33 crore and Rs 8.91 crore, respectively, according to the papers filed yesterday.
Though the final list of contestants will be prepared after the withdrawal of papers tomorrow, the list of 309 prospective nominees has nearly 50 crorepatis on it.

“Whosoever has an 8 marla or bigger house in Mohali is a crorepati,” said an Independent candidate, whose name also figures on the list.
