The police today arrested Shiv Sena leader Amit Arora, his domestic help Mani and Head Constable Om Parkash for concocting the story of an attack and misleading the police. A case of fraud (with sections under the Arms Act) has been registered against the trio.
Jatinder Singh Aulakh, Commissioner of Police, said the accused staged the attack drama to get more gunmen and an escort vehicle.
“The accused had promised his domestic help Mani that he would give him Rs 1 lakh in lieu of helping him in the execution of the plan. Similarly, he also promised HC Om Parkash that he would help him to get promotion,” said Aulakh.
The report of forensic team revealed the fact the injury on the neck of Amit Shrama was not a bullet wound as the skin was not burnt. During investigation, the forensic team found that the injury was inflicted with an iron weapon. During interrogation, Amit Sharma confessed that his domestic help Mani inflicted the injury with an iron bar.
The police have recovered the iron bar from the house of the accused.
Amit Arora executed the plan on February 3 near a roadside eatery at Subhash Nagar in Basti Jodhewal. Mani attacked Amit Arora with an iron bar. Then they put a shell in the vehicle and raised the alarm that someone attacked him. Om Parkash called up the Police Control Room. He told the police that Amit Arora was attacked by unidentified assailants while he was having soup near the eatery. He was rushed to the CMC Hospital where senior BJP leaders, including Kamal Sharma, former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) state president, visited him.
Following the incident, Hindu organisations had staged protests.
The investigating officers were wondering how Amit could be shot at on the left side while he was sitting on the driver’s seat and his gunman on the passenger’s seat to his left.
The police interrogated Om Parkash and Mani a day before yesterday and they confessed that Amit stage-managed the attack.
On June 22, the Crime Investigating Agency interrogated Amit Sharma who also confessed that he stage-managed the attack.
