Awareness campaign on use of exotic weed

Dehradun, February 1

Yana society, Roorkee, in association with Society Towards Environmental Protection (STEP) and Bagwan Gramoudhyog Samiti Shyampur, Prem Nagar, Dehradun, yesterday organised an awareness campaign on the utilisation of exotic weed Lantana by making handicraft items involving local village women in the Shaspur block of Dehradun.

Dr Paramjit Singh, president, STEP, introduced the aspect of Lantana and its utilization. He informed about various other uses to be undertaken from Lantana weed which he said was abundantly present in Uttarakhand.

Another speaker TS Bist assured the full cooperation to the villagers in undertaking the training in usage of Lantana. He said the training will ultimately help them to improve the entrepreneurship and socio economic status of the villagers.

Women from Jaintanwala, Rikholi and Bidohli villages attended the training programme.
