Congress leader Gurdev Singh Lapran today accused MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali of influencing the police for not taking any action against his brother who had allegedly attacked Major Singh Mullanpur, secretary of Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, six days ago.
Lapran said around ten people had attacked Mullanpur when he had gone to visit the constituency. “A case has been registered with the police, but no action has been taken due to the Ayali’s influence. We have even mentioned the name of the accused in the complaint,” he said.
Lapran said in case the police failed to take an action, the party would take strong action against the police officials concerned after it come to power.
“Law and order in the state has been disrupted completely. A few days ago, an innocent girl was shot dead at Nabha. The Congress is not afraid of the Akali goons,” said Lapran.
Major Singh Mullanpur said he raised his voice against drugs and corruption due to which he was attacked by the Akalis.
However, MLA Manpreet Singh Ayali refuted the allegations. He said: “The police probing the matter and has traced the CCTV footage. Everything will be clear after the investigations are over,” he said.
