Political leaders cutting across party lines have condoled the death of former Lok Sabha Speaker and Governor Dr Balram Jakhar.

CM Parkash Singh Badal has expressed profound grief and sorrow over the demise of the veteran Congress leader. In the death of Jakhar, the nation has lost a balanced and an experienced leader who was an ardent exponent of clean and value- based politics besides being an icon of the farming community who always championed their cause.

PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh has also expressed grief over the death of Dr Jakhar. The death of Jakhar was a great loss to the country, state and, particularly the Congress. Expressing his solidarity with the late leader’s son, MLA Sunil Jakhar, Capt Amarinder said he and the entire party stood by the bereaved family in this hour of grief.

Mourning the death, Deputy CM Sukhbir Singh Badal said that as Lok Sabha Speaker Dr. Jakhar conducted the proceedings with absolute impartiality and was also driving force behind computerisation drive in parliament apart from being instrumental in establishing the parliament museum.

Revenue Public Relations Minister Bikram Singh Majithia expressed grief at the demise of the former Union Minister and veteran Congress leader. He said that throughout his life, Dr Jakhar highlighted the challenges as well as problems being faced by the farming community.

Suchha Singh Chhotepur, convenor, Aam Aadmi Party, has also expressed grief at the death. Senior Congress leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal has mourned the death of the former Lok Sabha Speaker. The former CM paid rich tributes to the veteran Congress leader calling him a great parliamentarian.

His contribution to the farm sector will remain unparalleled, she said.
