Badal, Makkar booed at Khalsa games

Chaos prevailed during the inaugural function of the 12th traditional Khalsa games as one of the students started raising slogans against SGPC chief Avtar Singh Makkar and CM Parkash Singh Badal, here today.

As Makkar and RS member Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa stood up to take the salute at the march past of participants from 42 SGPC- run colleges at Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, the protester- Gurpiyar Singh - a final year student of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, started raising slogans. He was dressed like Nihang.

The security staff had a tough time tackling him. He was later taken outside the campus. However, when Gurpiyar Singh continued to raise slogans, SSP JS Khaira had to intervene to arrest the youth.

Gurpiyar Singh said that he was protesting against the participation of ‘patit’ (apostate) Sikh youths in the march past. He said the SGPC had failed to take any action in the matter which had hurt his religious sentiments. — TNS
