Lovers of vintage cars may soon have a dedicated place in the city to showcase their beautiful old cars as the UT Administration has been working on various options to promote vintage cars in the city.
Sources said the exercise had started after VP Singh Badnore, Governor of Punjab and the Administrator, Chandigarh, has expressed desire to promote the vintage cars in the city.
Being a keen admirer of the vintage cars and being responsible for many successful vintage cars rallies in Rajashthan, Badnore has asked the officers to examine options how the vintage car sports could be promoted in the city. Sources said while the officers are examining the options, one option has emerged to locate a dedicated place where the owners of the vintage cars can showcase their prized possession.
Anurag Agarwal, Home Secretary, invited the vintage car owners recently, to seek their suggestions. It was suggested by the owners that a national level Chandigarh vintage car rally should be organised in which the people from other states could participate. Sumit Kumar, an owner of a vintage car, said it had been their long cherished dream to see the city as the major centre for a vintage car rally. He said the city held many such vintage car rallies but they had only local participants. Having a big rally annually, will also help attract tourists.
He said that the idea to have one place where car owners could assemble with their cars is also good. Kishie Singh, patron of the Chandigarh Vintage and Classic Cars Club, also welcomed the move.
