Basanti Bisht, Pushpa Manas honoured

“Room to Read”, a voluntary organisation, in association with Pacific Mall organised various events on the occasion of International Women’s Day here today. Many eminent women from across Uttarakhand, including famous jagar singer Basanti Bisht and Padma Shri awardee Pushpa Manas, Sujata Singh, Sangeeta Dhaundiyal, Patricia Hilton and RJ Nupur, were honoured.
Underprivileged girls from various sections of society were also invited. These girls being provided vocational training were motivated to become self dependent. They were informed about the importance of education in life and how well it contributes towards self empowerment of women.
The All Women’s Band-‘Womanya’, which is a first of its kind exclusive women’s band from Dehradun, gave a special performance that was appreciated by everyone present. All visitors were made to take a pledge to respect all women and treat them as equals.
The winners of the ongoing Dehradun Photography Festival were also announced. O the 200 participating photographs, 20 were shortlisted and the top three were given the topic of ‘Women through Lens’.
Kinjal Radia, Centre Director, Pacific Mall, said the purpose of such a event was to spread awareness among women and make them self-confident. This would not only help them achieve better results in life but also have an individual identity.
