Bathinda, December 18

Though the ruling SAD-BJP has been claiming that the Bathinda-New Delhi air connectivity would give an immense boost to the industry and trade in the Malwa region, the response to the newly launched flight has been rather poor.

Statistics reveal that the booking for the third New Delhi-Bathinda flight reduced to a mere 35 per cent as compared to the first flight. The 70-seater ATR-72 aircraft of the Alliance Airlines, a subsidiary of the Air India, just carried 31 passengers from New Delhi. Meanwhile, the number of passengers for the New Delhi-bound flight from here was a mere 18.

The first-day flights on December 11 had recorded 70 per cent booking, the booking for the second-day flights on December 14 had come down to 40 per cent.

No official of the airlines was ready to speak on the issue. Airline sources, however, said the bookings were expected to improve as the flights were still in their ‘infancy’.
